Cynthia is famous for her closely fitted, set-in sleeve jackets. Very classic, very, very elegant. However, with more casual lifestyles eliminating the need for too many of those in our closets, and in her quest to create easier-to-fit styles, Cynthia has explored jackets with a looser fit, to create a new collection of styles. She has created many variations of these new, looser-fitting, non-set-in-sleeve styles – from duster length to waist-length, with buttons, zippers, tabs and no closures at all. These newest jackets have been hugely popular, as they really echo the best in ready-to-wear, and are quite versatile, going from outerwear to casual to special occasion to conservative or artful business wear.
Think about the best of your favorite designer… jackets made in a soft boiled wool or silk gabardine … although denim works very well, too! Cynthia herself favors raw silk. These newest jackets have a very simple fitting process for length and circumference – one vertical and one horizontal fitting line for each design’s sizing, which Cynthia demonstrates at the beginning of the course. That the patterns have been created for B, C, D and E cup sizes makes fitting one of these jackets even more of a breeze.
And … there’s more! Cynthia’s Seven Core Sewing Skills course is your bonus starter. This comprehensive course is one she taught live at Original Sewing & Quilt Expo across the country to record audiences before it was taped in our filming. As we were filming this jacket course, we realized how much valuable information it contains – information everyone who sews should have, including lessons that will help you achieve the same beautiful results as Cynthia herself.
If you’ve taken classes with Cynthia before, you may already be using these methods, and you can skip right over those parts of the class. If not, you’ll want to watch Seven Core Sewing Skills first. The techniques and methods – Cynthia’s system for couture-level construction – will help you at every step, in every project you sew.
Once you have these core construction skills under your belt, Cynthia shares the special features and construction techniques for two of her jacket(s). They are each fully lined, and in keeping with her goal to create flattering clothing, Cynthia designed both with a slightly lowered front neckline, and tailored collar which is versatile without being confining. You can wear it open, partially closed or fully zipped, and it will attractively accommodate any style of top beneath it. The bonus: designer details bring the eye to the face in these innovative, comfortable and attractive jackets.
All Start Anytime courses, are self-paced, and you can begin the moment you register, viewing the course anytime that is convenient for you. Many students watch it through one time first, and then go back to work alongside the instructor with their own project activities.
