Carrickmacross is an appliquéd lace technique made by outlining a design with a couched cord or heavy thread through a layer of organdy and netting. The cord or heavy thread that is couched is 100% cotton and usually a size 40 or 60 crochet thread. The couching thread is a 50-weight or lighter-weight cotton sewing thread. Once the design is stitched, the excess organdy layer is cut away, leaving a lovely textured design. Master this timeless technique during this online class taught by Ann Peebles. You will create a beautiful heart design as you begin your Carrickmacross lace-making journey. This technique is perfect to use on dress collars, handkerchiefs, and more. Ann Peebles

It seems as though Ann Peebles has always sewn, but it was not until 2003, when her granddaughters were very small, that she became interested in fine sewing. Ann was introduced to Carrickmacross lace in 2012 and shortly thereafter designed a child’s collar for the 2013 SAGA Design Show. It was awarded Best of Show. Ann furthered her skills by traveling to Ireland where she met and was taught by an award-winning Irish lace maker, Mary O’Neill. Mary has continued to mentor Ann in her lace-making proficiencies.
