Is your embroidery unit still packed in its box? Do you find the overwhelming number of stabilizers and their uses confusing? Let’s stop all that struggling! Beginning and experienced embroiderers alike will find peace of mind in this online course, creating perfect, non-puckered embroideries every time, on every project.
The secret: understanding stabilizers and hooping, and how they relate to each other. Learn to confidently choose which stabilizer to use, make peace (not war) with your hoop and get your projects centered and ready for embroidery. How great is that?
Throughout the online course, Katie demonstrates how the combination of both the hooping technique and stabilizer leads to the perfect result you are looking for. Walk with her through the anatomy of a hoop and learn the language and terminology of the embroidery world. As you move through the course, Katie explores the three most popular hooping projects and guides you through their successful completion: embroidery on quilt blocks, towels and T-shirts. The skills learned with these basic projects will form the foundation you need to tackle any embroidery project in the future.
There are SO many different resources about how to hoop and stabilize your projects correctly. Now — in the privacy of your own home — join Katie, whose years of teaching others to love their embroidery practice, helps you enjoy yours, too. She will not only demonstrate and discuss a variety of methods, but she’ll share them with her unique teaching style, which also explains the “why” so you can make decisions on your own from now on. Her guidance, calm show-and-tell style and easy explanations will take you to a new level of understanding, whether you’re BRAND NEW to embroidery or a SEASONED embroidery veteran.

Katie Bartz has a reputation: she’s an adventurer and an inspiring entrepreneur. Starting with hand-sewing, learned from her grandmother at age 9, Katie started using a sewing machine in 7th grade Home Ec. The first project was the infamous apron. Katie wanted to pass the class, so she asked her teacher for permission to make a three-piece lined suit for extra credit. Needless to say, she passed the class, with her three-piece suit in hand, AND fell in love with taking flat fabric and creating something beautiful from it! Yep, Katie is an over-achiever!
She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems and went on to start her own computer consulting firm in St. Paul, Minnesota. During her 20 plus years in the computer industry, she dabbled and learned to work with embroidery machines and began to teach others about sewing and computers. Katie has been fortunate to combine her love of computer technology and sewing, and loves sharing it with others in her classes and through her patterns. Katie’s down to earth teaching style focuses on the techniques — and what you end up with is a uniquely engineered project!
Katie offers classes in sewing: beginning to advanced, machine embroidery, computer and digitizing software. She has also taught CorelDraw and Photoshop Elements techniques to sold-out venues and loves sharing photo prep and printing on fabric secrets with the sewing and crafting markets, as well.
She has also co-authored the Pillow Talk book with the sewing enthusiast in mind, as the smaller pillow projects present the same skills one needs to move up to larger projects.
Katie now resides in Montana, where she can take further advantage of her love of nature and sewing.
