If you’re new to the embroidery world and you hear about embossing, applique, 3D-applique, and free-standing lace embroidery, you might not completely understand. Learn what each term is about in this online course, as you discover how to create these beautiful embroideries yourself. Katie guides you through examples of each technique, the anatomy of each, and shares tips about how to make each one even better!
Learn which stabilizers, tools and embroidery designs work best for each technique. Also, as a bonus to this course, see a demonstration on how to bead by machine! A GREAT effect, which marries embroidery and beading, creating effects which are more beautiful than either on its own.
All Start Anytime courses, are self-paced, and you can begin the moment you register, viewing the course anytime that is convenient for you. Many students watch it through one time first, and then go back to work alongside the instructor with their own project activities.
Katie Bartz has a reputation: she’s an adventurer and an inspiring entrepreneur. Starting with hand-sewing, learned from her grandmother at age 9, Katie started using a sewing machine in 7th grade Home Ec. The first project was the infamous apron. Katie wanted to pass the class, so she asked her teacher for permission to make a three-piece lined suit for extra credit. Needless to say, she passed the class, with her three-piece suit in hand, AND fell in love with taking flat fabric and creating something beautiful from it! Yep, Katie is an over-achiever!
She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems and went on to start her own computer consulting firm in St. Paul, Minnesota. During her 20 plus years in the computer industry, she dabbled and learned to work with embroidery machines and began to teach others about sewing and computers. Katie has been fortunate to combine her love of computer technology and sewing, and loves sharing it with others in her classes and through her patterns. Katie’s down to earth teaching style focuses on the techniques — and what you end up with is a uniquely engineered project!
Katie offers classes in sewing: beginning to advanced, machine embroidery, computer and digitizing software. She has also taught CorelDraw and Photoshop Elements techniques to sold-out venues and loves sharing photo prep and printing on fabric secrets with the sewing and crafting markets, as well.
She has also co-authored the Pillow Talk book with the sewing enthusiast in mind, as the smaller pillow projects present the same skills one needs to move up to larger projects.
Katie now resides in Montana, where she can take further advantage of her love of nature and sewing.
