Kathy will be your expert guide in this online class, as you learn all about serger settings, the importance of differential feed, and more tips and tricks for serging knits. You will see just how easy it is to serge a flawless neckband, insert sleeves, and have perfectly matched seams. Kathy will show you how to add optional machine embroidery to your tee for added embellishment. The hem of the tee can be finished with a lettuce-edge hem for a frilly look, or a coverstitch hem for the more tailored version. If you don’t have a coverstitch serger, no worries! She will show you how you can create beautiful hems on knits using your sewing machine, too. With the included patterns, you can create a kid’s size XS (1-2) to XL (12) shirt. Kathy McMakin

Kathy McMakin is one of America’s foremost authorities in the field of heirloom sewing by machine and by serger. She is the editorial director of Classic Sewing magazine, and she teaches beginning and advanced sewers from every corner of the world and inspires a new level of confidence in her students. Kathy directs sewing and serging events for Classic Sewing and Martha Pullen Company held all across the U.S. and is the director of Martha Pullen’s Teacher Licensing Program. She also teaches at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo.

She has been a guest instructor at events for every major sewing machine manufacturer in the world. She has authored several sewing and serging books and has produced and appeared in numerous sewing and serging videos. Kathy lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband and has two grown children and three absolutely precious grandchildren.
