Baby is on the way, and you want to make something quick, easy and spectacular... Join multi-talented Baby Lock educator Missy Billingsley as she walks you through fun and invaluable quilting, machine embroidery and serger techniques to make a keepsake baby quilt. Missy invites all sewists to move beyond the day-to-day use of their sewing machines and sergers.

On this quilt design, the appliquéd center block features the word “Baby” machine embroidered ever-so-beautifully inside an eight-sided, scalloped, appliqué design. Embellishment details include fun and easy-to-fashion serger puffing and pintucks, which finish two of the nine blocks when joined with bridging.

Four small, nine-patch blocks also provide a lesson in the ease of serger construction. Lace-to-fabric is traditionally worked by sewing machine, but with the rolled hem serger technique, Missy demonstrates how to achieve this classic heirloom finish in a single step; it’s the primary way to attach purchased, embroidered insertion as well as unadorned fabric strips to the last two blocks.

Instructions for completing the quilt are clear, concise and easy to follow; simply stop and start the video to set your pace when piecing the nine blocks together, adding the border, layering the quilt and accenting binding with piping – the final touch.

An instructional PDF for the quilt is included, as well as two machine embroidery appliqué frame designs in three sizes (6”, 7” and 8”) in all formats for the center quilt block. One frame design contains “Baby” and the other frame is left blank for you to personalize as desired. * Your embroidery machine must have a 6” or larger embroidery field to use the included designs.

Missy Billingsley

Although Missy's mother tried to share her love of sewing with her daughter, Missy wasn't interested at the time. Now that Missy has embraced sewing for over 20 years, the roles are reversed. Missy travels around the country teaching classes on sewing, serging, embroidery and software with a special focus on heirloom sewing by machine and serger. Additionally, her in-depth software knowledge has enabled her to create her own website featuring her digitized embroidery designs, in-the-hoop projects as well as other sewing and serging projects. Some of her projects include companion instructional DVDs! She teaches regularly at Baby Lock's Love of Heirloom events and at Baby Lock's Dealer Convention. To add to her credentials, Missy is a Martha Pullen Licensed Teacher and a Sulky Certified Instructor. She's appeared on the "Martha's Sewing Room" television show and has been featured in several magazines such as Sew Beautiful, Creative Expressions and Creative Machine Embroidery and Quilting.
