Connie started her dress using a pattern she designed herself (Marjorie, by That’s Sew Connie). Then she did fanciful things to it, turning an already cute design into a little girl’s dream dress. If you enjoy working with fine quilting cottons and the fun of combining a variety of prints in an artful way, this is a chance to do so and learn new techniques at the same time. Baby piping, turning corners, sewing ruffles and making your own trim are a few of the techniques Connie will teach you during this course.
Working with vibrant, whimsical prints from FreeSpirit, Connie turned one small lower hemline ruffle into tiered, multi-layered “fluff” at the lower back, each tier carrying contrast rickrack. The front bodice features a double ruched overlay, created using two different fabrics and two different sizes of rickrack. One of those prints is also found at the waistline, armhole and neck edges in perfect piping, emphasizing the lines of the dress and creating a high-end finish and look. Of course, Connie couldn't resist working up a matching Thoroughly Modern Marjorie dress for an 18" doll. Matching dresses for a little girl and her doll—what could be sweeter?
The downloadable Marjorie pattern (girls sizes 2–6) and coordinating 18" doll pattern are both included with your course purchase.
